Last Sunday, we had a picnic planned after church and Sunday school. We didn't want to leave the new puppy in his crate all day, when he spends all night there, so we called one of the families from church, who live near the church and have 3 little dogs of their own, if we could bring our puppy and his crate and let him at their house during church and Sunday school, and we would take him along to the picnic. The woman of the house answered the phone and said that would be fine. So, off we went, the five of us and our new puppy.
The picnic was at a small park, but it was nice -- very shady, and a creek with clean running water.

Our new puppy, checking out a shallow area of the creek.

Suddenly, he thought he saw something! (A frog, perhaps). Well, first, he cautiously sniffed at it, then he tried to pick it up in his mouth and finally, he tried to catch it with his paw -- too funny, as it was simply, a rock.
As it was a fairly hot day, most of the younger kids cooled off by playing in the creek:

The young adults and teens played Ultimate Frisbee in the meadow across the creek:

They came across a slippery rock bridge.

The adults did what adults do best, sat and chatted.

A boy and his dog. This young man just got his dog about a week before we did. He brought him along to prevent having to let him in his crate all day long as well. We enjoyed seeing how well his dog and our puppy took to water.

This mom took her precious little one to cool off a bit in a shallow area of the creek. She perched upon a rock and curiously reached a hand into the water. Then . . .

she decided to kick her feet to splash a bit. What a joy to watch!

Some of the ladies decided to cool off by simply wading, ankle-deep, in the creek. (After I shot this photo, they convinced me to join them for a while.)

This young lady found a comfy perch across from where we stood in the creek. Isn't she pretty, and doesn't her colorful skirt make this photo come alive?

Okay, this is as deep as I am willing to go on my own.

This young lady held our baby, and he looked right into her face. (Her younger sister is the one who convinced Gentry, the puppy, to go up to his belly in the water, and then she gently scooped water over his back to be sure he got wet all over. These two are animal lovers.)

Now, here is the photo that speaks 1,000 words. My hubby, who was most hesitant about getting a new puppy due to the extra time and work it would take, not to mention the possibility of it having accidents on our newly placed carpet (we won't talk about this), spent most of Sunday getting pretty chummy with the new pup. He had him most of the day, and here you can see, just how cozy the two are becoming. I knew he'd love a new puppy!

After the picnic, we visited with this lovely family to meet this sweet pony, Liberty.

This is Rachel riding her precious pony, Liberty. She was so happy to show her new pony off to us. It was a wonderful, sweet Sunday.
